Capstone Rural Health Center of Parrish will be hosting its third annual Back2School Supplies Giveaway this Friday.

The event has continued to gain momentum each year, and the health center is set to give away 600 backpacks this year, compared to 500 last year.

Shannon Williamson, outreach coordinator for Capstone, said the first giveaway was small, and she was surprised when more than 1,500 people came to Parrish for last year’s event.

With donations from the Salvation Army of Walker County and First United Methodist Church, Capstone has been able to serve more children this year. In addition, the Alabama Power Service Organization’s Gorgas Steam Plant chapter is supplying backpacks for this year’s giveaway, and the Jasper APSO chapter donated supplies to fill the backpacks.
